Does lexiCan work in combination with a USB-device?

Yes! You can use a USB-device in combination with lexiCan in two ways:

1.) USB-Device as data storage
lexiCan stores all information to operate a lexiCan project under a main folder. If you copy this folder on a USB-device you can operate such a project with no diffrence to other drivs of your computer.

2.) Start lexiCan from USB-device
In addition to 1.) you can also start the lexiCan program from a USB-device. This only requires that the target computer supports the Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 or higher. This is how you do it: copy all files from installation folder (typically: c:\program\lexiCan) in a seperate folder onto the USB-device. Simply start the lexican.exe from there.

Can I protect access to my information with a password?

Although the lexiCan application does not include the option to password protect your information, Microsoft Windows tools do. Using Microsoft Windows tools (or other protections), users can limit who has authorization to access specific folders. Data can also be encrypted using the Windows Encrypting File System (EFS).

Can my lexiCan articles and information be published to the internet or transferred to a CD ROM?

Yes! With the "File / Export / Website" function lexiCan users can automatically create HTML versions of their articles or knowledge bases. Information can easily be incorporated into websites, placed on company servers, or saved to other storage media such as a USB stick. The public, or anyone in the organization, may access the information though a standard website browser. Other than a browser, no special software is required.

What if I don’t use Microsoft Word as my word processing program?

With lexiCan 3 this is no problem at all. Should you want to open content created with lexiCan in a word processing software other than Word, simply export it to richt text format (rtf). Therefore select menu "File / Export / Document"

What is the maximum size of a lexiCan project?

lexiCan is capable of handling large projects, in fact the program itself does not maintain a physical limit. Consequently, the maximum project size is more limited by the operating system under which lexiCan runs. If a NTFS files system (Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Server 2008, Vista, and 7) is used, a drive can manage 4.294.967.295 files. For FAT32 file system (Windows 95/98) 65.534 files. Another limit to consider is the maximum storage capacity of the hard drive.

Besides these limits lexiCan does not know limitations in the number of articles per project, number of projects and files associated or number of links. Some of our customers facilitate large projects with several thousand articles and several GB in size without problem. With increasing size the speed of lexiCan might be reduced in some aspects, such as for full text search or saving a new article. In such a situation users will still be able to split one project into smaller sub projects and regain performance.

Data Backup: How do I backup lexiCan Projects?

We recommend to perform backups of your lexiCan data regularly. lexiCan stores all information associated with a project in one folder (the one you select when creating the project). Therefore the simplest option to backup is to copy this folder and its entire content to the backup drive. Use the Windows Explorer or any third party folder synchronisation tool in case you demand more speed or automated procedures.
